whew! 45 comments, time for a new entry!

so thanks for all the comments. i love the way the topics spiralled from trips to world wars to kimonos to grandfathers to graduation ceremonies to women in japan... it's almost like our weekly girls' night but written down.
my grad ceremony in the end was fine. the only slightly painful part (not including the cold and the speeches i didn't understand) was the incessant bowing - today i feel as though my neck got quite the workout yesterday. the highlight was the $8000.00 bonzai tree they had on display. yes. that was 8000 DOLLARS (800 000 YEN).
in an act of spontaneous craziness, i booked a ticket to malaysia today for 10 days in april/may. i'm going to meet tasza on the island of kuala besut (?) for another dose of white sand and sun. sugoi!
i've started a written correspondance with one of my ni-nensei students here at saruhashi. today she came into the teacher's room with a little present for me (scented candles and holder) and a letter, including an amazing manga drawing of me. her english teacher says that she's not a good student in class (never pays attention) so i figure that our letter-writing back and forth will do her wonders.
... :) ... smiley today... :) ...

keito, don't forget we're going to kobe for the recontracting weekend in ... may? i have heard sendai is great.
i'm glad that i don't get to choose what time i eat lunch because if i did i know i'd want to eat it by 10am everyday...and starve for the rest.
no jefu, the tree is not in the pic.
hit, yeah! hong kong! way to piss off the kyoto sensei!
kell i'm also going out of my mind. it's 9:55 now - and i'm only teaching 4rth. both of my schools thought i would be at the other one today since my schedule was mixed up due to the grad ceremony. so neither school had planned on having me.
i'm so dead tired though right now and i don't know why. i went to bed at 11 last night, turned off my alarm this morning and slepped until 7:45! (i have to be at school before 8:10 and it's a 10 minute drive). i literally got ready in 6 minutes. maybe because i had such a stressfully chaotic morning i don't feel at ease. in any case, i'm looking forward to getting the hell out of here today, after i have another meeting with "woman who makes me so annoyed and crazy i wanna rip my hair out" (from eikaiwa).
kelly, have you tried kate's suggestion of bored.com?

So tired.... Just looked in the mirror and I have the eyes of someone with a secret crack habit... Only time the time difference between here and the English speaking world actually becomes apparent to me is when I am forced to wake up at 4:30 in the morning to watch important football matches... Definitely worth it when your team wins but working after 3 hours of sleep when you lose is nothing but inifinitely depressing... I can honestly feel key sectors of my brain shutting down one by one... Only one lesson today and as I`m sure you`ll all agree, the hardest part of this situation is to find a way to stay awake, until you can go home, that doesn`t require the brainpower of someone who has had a reasonable amount of sleep... Regardless though, I`m sure its better than working in a mine when you feel like this, so I`ve actually got nothing to complain about... Rambling, sorry...

kate, we missed you, it was an early night with an early start,
if you are bord i also suggest disinformation lots of interessing stuff to read.
J & Kel, i am continually amazed at how boring it can be to have no classes, i know we should not complain, we should just write and enjoy the time but it is just crazy to be stuck at a desk for 8 hours,.
i wish we could "work" at home....

to kill the time
let's do a survey:
Question: describe the worst outfit you can ever recall wearing, in detail, one so bad that you wish you could time travel to destroy its existance.
OR if you don't have onehow about a really embarassing moment.

natalie,
i'm sorry, i really want to describe my worst outfit ever but i can't be bothered! i can't even motivate myself to do that.
things must be bad when i have nothing to say.
thinking of asking for nenkyu after lunch or pretending to be sick. although a littel late in the day to start coughing to make the later believable.

So yesterday I was told by my supervisor that I can “take it easy” for the next couple of days. My supervisor ironically has the name “Gomi”- literally translated to “Garbage, trash”. But she is an angel....sometimes. I have no classes, no work and the kids have 3 days off. Junior High school kids are here to endure the hardest exams of their lives to get into this academic, Hindu infested ghetto of a high school. So here is my take on “Taking it easy” and how I have gone about implementing it.

I awoke today at 7.25am and I went back to sleep. I awoke again at 8.00am and went back to sleep. I awoke for the 3rd time and low and behold I went back to sleep. Like a warm but fiery wind -like the one you have when you`ve had a combo of eggs and beans with chips- I breezed into school virtually unnoticed at 9.45am. I have been sitting here ever since, distracting the junior kids with my hair and Kyoto with my appearance. No tie today. Its kinda of an important day you see.

At 3pm im gonna hit the city. If anyone of you fine young people wanna make like Craig David and “Rendezvous” I would love it. You know my number.

Most embarrassing moment: when I told my mum to spell “Ejaculation”. She told my dad but he was too embarrassed to shout at me. They never did tell me.

Most embarassing moment... Was at a rave when I was about 16 and it was about 6:30 in the morning... I had positioned myself on the outside dancefloor where I was standing in the middle of the crowd, which by that time had thinned out slightly as peopl started to get tired and sat on the hills on the sides watching the people in the middle and thus you could get quite a good view of the people around you... Anyway I was wearing shorts and a vest... A friend of mine thought it would be amusing to run up behind me and pull thes shorts down so I would be standing in my boxers... Problem was that the boxers came with them and I was left with just my vest for covering, thus exposing myself totally to a mass of people on a very very cold day... Obviously substantially more embarassing than a warm one... Due to my shock I froze and slowly turned my head from side to side to see if anyone had noticed... If I hadn`t had made that ridiculous error, I may have gotten away with only minimal exposure but in that few seconds everyone seemed to notice, including those sitting on the hills on the side, therefore creating an amphitheatre containing me and my exposed nature as the main attraction... Hundreds of people... Still haunts me...

Kat and Kate,
Definitely go to Kobe! It is really cool. My fav. place in Japan. It's a short local train ride from Osaka so I'd suggest doing both if you can, especially if you have a week.

how bad?
ok so i went to the "bank" and got a packet of choc digestive type biscuits. all the teachers are at a meeting so it's just me and the old caretaker/janitor guy (who incidentally always sits in kyotos chair when it's just me and him and giggles like a child!) in the teacher's room. i accidently forgot to offer him a biscuit and i've just eaten the entire packet! i meant to offer one honest but they were so yummy and he was doing his kyoto impression for the 100th time and i was trying to block him out.
clearly,i have lost the plot....

jefu- a crop top is a shirt that's cut short and shows off your midriff(sp?). not terribly appealing unless you're an anorexic member of the 90210 cast. and even then...

worst outfit ever? okay, 8th grade farewell dance. permed hair with the big bangs (i just wouldn't let them die). white baby-tee under a blue floral print baby doll dress. the kind with no waist that end way above the knee. white knee-high socks that had a bow on the side. black mary jane buckle shoes and one of those short, tight grey cardigans over it. i was a courtney love poster child...

black bicycle shorts with a pink stripe down the sides
flowery button up shirt which was predominantly florescent pink and green
pink belt i raided from my mother's wardrobe, tied tightly and high around my waste, over the shirt which hung down
high-top converse that were florescent pink on one side, florescent green on the other
a high pony-tail
i have this memory of me standing (in this outfit) in front of the full-length mirror in my mother's dressing room, thinking "wow i look cute".
there is just no excuse for the '80s.

Oh my god Justine i DISTINCTLY remember the black cycling shorts with flourescent pink stripes, i had them too!! circa 1988! Man, we were cool! Anything flourescent if i remember, was the epitome of young, cool and carefree...

And the glocal hypercolour T shirts!! Oh YES i had one too, how GROSS were they? " oh look, im sweating, see where i sweat, the t- shirt changes colour! how novel!" And i remember kids coming up and blowing on my shirt.

I also had a thing for hairspray, where me and mates would spray our hair SOLID and try and make our fringes stand up real high, then fall gracefully to the side. Nice!

Just had my graduation...interesting....understood fuck all of what was being said, but we had a slide show from when 3-nensei were 1-nensei...kinda cute. Just been given a cup of 'cherry blossom' tea...yah, its a flower covered in salt in a cup. Im drinking the equivalent of sea water. it's gross.
