sorry i didn't make it j. i'm hibernating. that and the fact i get up at 6 every morning to get to school on time means i am wrecked unless i go to bed at 9p.m. 10 p.m. at the latest!! quick jack o lantern question though. i'm making one with my student tonight. i have a big orange pumpkin like the one in this pic. will a tea light candle be ok or should i stop by the 100 yen store and get a taller one?

i would say it depends on how big the orange pumpkin is. if it's a giant one like the one in this pic, a tea light WILL work, but it won't give off so much light. if you get the change to get some more candles it would look cooler but a tea light will work and they're perfect for the little green kabochas. xo

it's a big un so will stop by the 100 yen store on my way home. maybe it's taller than this one but not as round width wise (does this even make sense?!)it's my first experience with a pumpkin ya see. we use turnips in ireland which are smaller and a lot harder to scoop out i'm guessing. how do i toast (roast?) pumpkin seeds? toaster oven? pan? the plan is to make a jack o lantern, eat sweets and seeds (sounds wierd to me!) then don scary masks and go round to troys to trick or treat! she's only 12 and so excited about all of this! bless her. your class looks like it was awesome btw.xxx

after carving pumpkin, separate seeds from goo and wash them in a bowl of water. seeds will float and goo will sink so skim seeds off top. semi-dry seeds and mix 1 tbsp per cup of seeds of olive oil. spread seeds out on cooking sheet and heavily sprinkle with salt (we're talkin lots of salt). place in oven at high heat, (about 2-250 C) for about 15 - 20 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy, but not burnt. the more cooked the better, unless you burn them.

good luck

u should also keep stirring the seeds on the tray with a fork so both sides get crispy.

well it is possible to carve in less than an hour...but watch out for stabbing fingers!
the seeds don't take long at all, but make sure you take the lid off the pumpkin and sort/wash the seeds right away because sorting takes a bit of time. gonbatte!
