trouble at the hen house

i came into school this morning to a big commotion. there were all these police buzzing around and the teacher's were all uptight. one said to me "we think there is a stranger in the school." after asking one of my english teacher's, i was told that this morning six windows were discovered to be smashed. also, whoever had done it had taken the fire extingishers and sprayed the whole gym and the hallway leading out to the teacher's room - the entire school hallways are white. they're now sweeping up the broken glass. oh, the drama.

'sticks' are not being used - they're still hung proudly on the wall.
the kyoto and kocho just organized a school-wide clean up for 40 minutes, right now we're all washing the floors and taking out the glass from the windows.
i was supposed to teach first period but i think they're skipping that...

wow! this reminds of an incident from my childhood! the exact same thing happened to my primary school (elementary school)back in my sleepy, rural irish village! the different reactions are interesting. We were allowed to play in the playground for about an hour and were then sent home cheering because we had an unexpected free day! the police took some finger prints under the watchful eye of the R.C.parish priest, the glass was replaced and the cleaners came in and cleaned up. us students and teachers had nothing to do with this, we were at home watching TV! it was the talk of the village for the day though. they never caught the culprits but we all had a sneaking suspicion it was the only bad teenager in the village who still held a grudge against the headmistress for making him stay back after school when he was 10! ah childhood memories....

some advice please:
today & tomorrow are test days in my school. i was told i'd have no classes so had planned to take 3 hrs nenkyu tomorrow. the head jte, who frequently cancels classes for no reason, has been known to take nenkyu and miss classes himself and who had plenty of opportunity to change the schedule (he was asked if he wanted to teach directly after the test and he said no!), just asked if i would teach with him 3rd period tomorrow. i told him i was told i'd have no classes/nothing to do and had planned to take nenkyu and had already bought a shinkansen ticket (a lie!). he just looked at me and said, if possible can you cancel your nenkyu! i said i'd look into the possibility of changing my plans at such short notice but feel like telling him to f off! oh and i have the same class on wed anyway! thing is kyoto/kocho/the other jtes would never ask me to cancel my nenkyu under any circumstances! what would you do?

I would keep my nenkyu as is and feel absolutely no guilt.

However, I have no soul when it comes to this job.

ok i just left a note on his desk telling him it was impossible to change my plans at such short notice. he is busy with various meetings now and we can all leave at 3ish today so i may not see him before i leave, hence the note.

a couple of alts i asked said i should consider canceling the nenkyu to save the hassle and coz i don't really have any plans, just using up my nenkyu. BUT i refuse to bow down to this guy. he is always extemely selfish and unprofessional, doesn't speak a word of english in his classes and would prefer i wasn't here.thing is i teach more classes a day on average than he does! 7 jtes, over 30 english classes,at least 4 T.T. a day that i basically solo teach. i know i try to escape early etc. but where my teaching is concerned i know i do a much better job than he does. ahhhhhhhh! this is pissing me off when i should be excited coz i get to officially leave early and have a long weekend ahead of me.

i hear ya kat, on all fronts, but i'm a woman of principal if nothing else, i'm leaving anyway and this guy hasnt done anything since he came in april to endear himself to me. to be honest if another jte asked me i'd probably do it but not for this guy under the circumstances. and the students will not suffer/miss out because this class would've been in lieu of a class they have next week. plus i've given the past week rearranging the entire T.T. schedule so i can have each class one last time. this was not easy with jte requests, tests, sports and various other schedule changes. he knows this, he is just being an asshole!

ahhhhhhhhhh! sorry girls, no more long whiney posts.

if i seriously felt as though i was needed in the lesson and if this JTE was not trying to take the piss then it would be one thing. but it doesn't matter that you don't have firm plans for your nenkyu - the point is that you'd already booked it off. it's not going to be the end of the world for him to get up off his lazy ass and teach the class himself. the sky isn't going to come crashing down. you should feel absolutely no guilt as you've gone about this in the best possible manner.
