kyusyoku no jikan (lunch time)

i often find myself curiously noting my teacher's strange habits during lunch time. we all sit around this low, long table and chow down in absolute silence. no one talks. sometimes i feel as though a lot of the time here, there is usually one way to do something, and it's not done any other way. today for instance, we each had a bun with our lunch with came in a sealed plastic bag. every single teacher (there were about 9 or 10 today) didn't take their bun out of the bag, but rather just pulled it out a bit so that they could take bites out of their bun but not take the bun out of the bag. another curious addition to our lunch today was a frozen lemon. at first i thought this was very strange until i realized that each lemon had been scooped out and the frozen peels (still in the shape of a lemon) were filled with frozen lemony-sherbet. which of course i couldn't eat due to lent although i massively cheated the other night by having an ice cream sunday at our girls' night at wara-wara. then the top of the lemon was replaced (only a quarter-sized hole was cut out of the top to dig out the lemon) we were were given a small plastic spoon to dig out the sugary yumminess.

Ha,ha,aah! Good job, Justine!

Glad you could go work and bear up with "kyofu(horrible) no kyusyoku"
(^o^)/ and that 'lemon' sorbet is an authentic dessert of kyusyoku, I must say. But it's no good for this winter season, dayo-ne?!

I think every other Japanese are just told to be quiet by teachers, or simply being shy to have lunch with foreign sensei, I suppose.

By the way, I'll go to International Film Fes on 19th with my Japanese friend Nozomi.
Where do you work for, NEXT or JAM?
She was interested in my foreign blog friend, and now works for Muramatsu-machi's city office.

I'm really enjoying your journal, Justine. We had a similar orange sorbet at the Mexican restaurant the other night after helping Pascale move into her new abode.
PS: has anyone found an easy way of getting back to the full blog after commenting and scanning the stories?

i'm not part of this 'ode to kieffer, 24' club. and it's not b/c he's a ginger. maybe i'd be persuaded, too if i was addicted to '24'.

My windows are steamed and im dying to draw a stupid looking face on and therefter imprint my name in huge bold letters. But beyond the condensation lies the remains of a snow “dump” that gracefully covers everything like a warm and feathery duvet. Last night I watched the ground breaking, mind blowing movie that is “Ghostbusters”. The characters and the stupid plot has always captured me and though if I was to be confronted by a Ghost I would pee in my pants before I screamed as loud as Lulu, I would still love to be a Ghostbuster for a day. They almost broach on the border of superheroes but they don’t have special powers (superman), they don’t have a utility belt with everything in it (batman) and no one (even ghosts)wants to kill them specifically ( James Bond). Anyway after waking this morning to find the Marshmellow Man`s vomit around Shibata, I felt really happy. I wasn’t even cheesed off that I would have to walk in this cesspit of coagulated snow to work. I awoke and saw pictures of all the people I love looking at me. I have formed many relationships in Japan; some I cherish and value as much as this country. In the past, the mutual love and respect would grow but here; you never needed any seeds, just sunshine. And GOD, it is a powerful source. Distance is irrevelant. Whether it rises 9500 miles away or right next door to you, it never fails to enrich me. Al Green was never right or wrong when he sung “aint no sunshine when she`s gone”. Its always there. It just shines differently from time to time.

To all those that have sustained me with their sunshine. HERE`S TO ANOTHER YEAR IN JAPAN.

“Gomi Sensei…….. Where`s my contract?”

N-CHAN, I MISS YOU. it's been sooooo long since i've seen you. i can't even REMEMBER! wednesday??? no, before that even! you defo have to come to girl's night this week.
ok. i had compiled a list of answers to your book-email. girl's name: never really wanted anything different. i like 'eva' though.
teacher who annoys me: this woman who watches my classes sometimes (she's not a JTE) and whenever i ask questions to the students she always shouts out the answer!
the most jpns experience would have to just be the daily lunchtimes at my school with the teachers. most memorable jpns experience...hmmm... it would either have to be my supervisor's aunt's traditional jpns house (with gardin) or maybe the tea ceremony at the shibata gardin, or walking through some of the shrines in kyoto...
