This is totally off the subject, but does anyone know an ALT called Micah who worked in Nakajo and Murakami? That's the one whose job is now available...

No he's been here for 2 years, but decided to quit at the last minute. Hiten knows him and he apparently keeps himself to himself, but i wouldn't mind speaking to him about the job.

i have to make my farewell speech to the students in 10 mins. it's half english, half japanese and there's alot of em. maybe 1000/1200 students. i've done this many, many times before in japan and i was a champion public speaker in school plus i used to be on the uni debating team but for some i am very nervous today...

fingers crossed i don't (a) fall (b) cry (c) mess up my words.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

yeah it is the same school martin but it is complicated. i have very little time for alot of the teachers and the management. true there are lots of badly behaved students but they are not all bad. for every bad kid there is at least 2/3 great kids, you know. even the bad ones, i don't hold it against them, they're teenagers, they're meant to cause trouble. i know i did! besides even the worst boy in the school who will soon join the yakuza(i believe)adores me. i am tough with them when they deserve it but there is never any bad feeling. the main problem here is the teachers. there are a few great ones but for the most part teachers bully each other so not that surprising that the students bully each other. plus this is my second time at this school so i've taught the san nensei's for one semester in each grade/year. i've put in alot of time with them and although i won't miss the constant discipline issues, i am a little sad:-( it's hard to explain but i guess it's easy to teach students who want to learn/are well behaved. the real challenge is teaching and making a difference(even a small one) in a school like this. sorry for rambling. i am feeling emotional and idealistic here!
the speech went very well btw. they cheered for a full 10 mins and continued even when kocho shouted at them to stop. almost a mini riot, bless em!

i'm really friendly with two jte's here and a japanese teacher who lived in oz for 3 years so i'll keep in touch with them for sure. one of the cool single jte's lives around the corner for me too so i'll definitely see her all the time.as for the students, going on past experience,my guess is some will email me for a while and i'll see most of them again on the train or in niigata somewhere. that's the thing about working in the city and changing schools so often, i know/have taught so many students at this stage.it's kinda nice though.
