a couple of funny things

i write an article for the shibata ayame news, a newsletter for the city which is also translated into english (and my page translated into japanese). i received the newsletter in the mail yesterday and was reading it over, especially the 'upcoming events' section. i noticed that on thursdays the city will be offering a (and i quote) "How to maintain swords" course: "You can see swords exhibited in Karion Bunka Kaikan and you can learn how to maintain and care for swords. Fee Y1500 (the fee of the entrance and a textbook). The first 5 people will be accepted." better hurry and sign up!
also, i thought this was pretty funny. sometimes people put jpns into their cell phones to translate texts before mailing us...and the automatic translator really screws up the english. my favourite is when the person spoken about is referred to as "it". in the example of my (wonderful) kickboxing instructor...when he (wonderfully) sent me directions to the free parking lot near the fitness centre, it came out as: "it crosses the bridge, and it turns to the left in the signal of piece sixth. it runs 100 meters." i love it.
then a friend of mine forwarded me a text she received from one of her adult students who she tutors. she'd sent him an emailing setting up their meeting time and he replied: " ok i wait for pleasure". HAHAHA.
