sweet milk

it's 1pm. it's cleaning time and i'm pretending to look busy as the students empty shredded paper into clear plastic bags, drag a broom around, and move dust from one side of the room to the other. i'm drinking my milk from lunch since i feel jilted today given the menu (nattou again). the milk here tastes as though it's been sweetened by honey.
my friend from hull, quebec Jean Rene is a photography (slash, works for CBC) and filmmaker in and around ottawa. he's a wonderful person and has been a great friend to me (always encouraging my own photography and helping me set up photo shows at the university and fringe festival etc). i've participated in several photography projects with him, beginning in 2002 with one he was doing called entre les branches (between the branches). jean's theme tends to be semi-nude slash artsy poses, digitally altered in some way - which he turns into something concrete such as an address book (entres les branches) or the latest one i was involved in (Mozaik H2O). http://www.artmozaik.com/Mozaik-H20.html his most recent theme involves dozens of pictures which he then turns into one giant photo by digitally putting them all together, which he then prints a giant mural and has it on display somewhere in downtown ottawa. his newest project is Energie Tribale (Mozaik UV) where he paints his models in uv-reflecting paint then photographs them. blurb: "Les participants seront peinturés par notre dynamique équipe d'artistes locaux en arts visuels. Les modèles seront photographiés individuellement en style libre et semi-nu (calçon noir obligatoire). Afin de produire des images électrisantes, nous utiliserons de la peinture fluorescente qui réagira sous l'effet de la lumière ultra-violette (lumière UV-Black Light). Les modèles deviendront alors un pixel pour créer la palette des couleurs de la grande murale: MOZAÏK UV - Énergie tribale"

oh me too! i cannot wait to get the hell out of here! i'm in a bad mood also. i thought tomorrow was my last day here,i'd go to HK and then have "homestudy" during spring break but the fuckers in city hall have changed the rules so i have to stay in this school and be here everyday 8:15-5 until the 31st of march and then change schools on april 1st and sit in the new one with nothing to do til the start of term. oh they said i could take nenkyu but i only have 6 hrs left til i get 20 new days on april 1st. i could cry here. the fact that i was told i would be free for two weeks meant i was all psyched up,only to have it snatched from me! WAAA WAAAA WAAAAAAA!!!!

have our mood cycles all fallen into sink due to the loads of time we spend together?
kell, thanks for coming to the musical this weekend. it was our worst one yet! none of us took it seriously...and of course mary's 'anal probe' comment.
i'm so annoyed to be here today that i've asked to go to "the bank" during my lunch break so that i can just drop by my apartment for 1/2 an hour and get a change of scene. even just getting outside for 10 minutes should make me feel better. how is it only tuesday?
kelly, i can sympathize with the holiday/no holiday? thing because lindsay and i are kinda going through that too. origionally they told us we'd probably have all of spring break, and even after off, but now they're saying we have to go in for classes...i'm not so sure what's up.
geez get me outta this place. how is the week just dragging by so much?

oh the humanity....

i can finally relate with all the "how-freakin-long-is-this-day-going-to-be" comments.

how is it only 1:30 and it feels like i have been here for WEEKS?!?!

kell, joe told me about tom's accident. thankfully he's ok but it must have been a scare. the same thing happened to my bro last week, he slipped on black ice and slammed into a van and totalled his car. luckily you have Hong Kong this weekend to take your mind off things!
keito, wow - watching dvd's at work. NOW i'm envious. and, you're right, i've been struggling a bit w/o the straighteners. i'm getting councelling for the feelings of withdrawal HA HA. but i don't know how lindsay's coping without her FMBs. GHDs, FMBs...the essence of life.
it is true that in exactly 4 days i'll be embarking on the holiday of a lifetime, but i think that's why this week is dragging by so much. maybe i'll just spend the rest of my day daydreaming about papua new guinea...

justine-

my phone has been doing some weird stuff lately...people call but it doesn't ring on my end. maybe it has something to do with whatever lame-excuse for a road project they've been working on outside my apt. for the past 2 months. i wouldn't be surprized if it's a conspiracy to block all incoming calls....devious BOE.

i am worried about t. last night he wasn't even 50% nevermind 100%.he is sleeping alot also.i don't know if this is normal, plus he was exhausted anyway because of his dissertation. he seemed a little better this morning. the doctor barely looked him over after the accident though. he is going to a special head hospital in sanjo this morning with his japanese mother so hopefully will get the all clear. get this, his school is pissed off he hasn't been in since the accident! plus after the hospital on monday they took him back to school before someone noticed he was passing out! hello, he was in an accident where his car was written off! i think because he's a guy they think he's really strong so if he's standing he's ok. i'm also worried he won't be able to go to HK but as long as he is ok i don't really care about that.
nat, did you hear we have to be in school all day everyday during spring break? i was led to believe it would be homestudy for jhs alts and am gutted now. of course sekiya hasn't bothered to let any of us or our schools know. i heard from nadina and troy. so if we're not in school it's nenkyu:-( unless kyoto is very nice to us but mine won't be. i have to come up with a plan or i will lose it.the box beckons...

Morning gals

Yes, last night was cool! Danke for the invite Justine, twas nice food, nice company. As ALWAYS! And can we PLEASE bring Jefu to all our mothers' meetings?

Kell- just emailed you. I hope Tom is ok, and the hospital clears everything up. Sadly, im not surprised about the attitude of the school, man, it pisses me off. Crazy society within which we live, huh?

The sun is shining, but the snow is melting. I know Lins would back me up here...it's CRAP!

IM hvaing lunch with the 'special kids' today. I was asked. The teachers laughed and told me to wear old clothes...we re gonna have a food fight! Awesome!

kelly,
i'm sure tom's just mentally and physically exhausted from the shock of the accident. it's good he's going to an actual specialist today though. better safe than sorry. can't believe his school's being such an ass. you must be very worried tho.
nat, thanks SO much for the little camisole. it fits perfectly and i love it! you rock.
and thanks to those of you (nat) who did the dishes last night! i was so exhausted i could barely stand. you're awesome. it was great though, wasn't it? i love spending time with you guys!
it is a beautiful day, finally starting to feel like spring. and PNG is finally becoming real...!kat, two weeks ago at shogakko i did the 'special education' class and it was so much fun! there were 5 ADORABLE 6-8 year olds, and we made that cake you put in a cup and put in the microwave. one boy kept pointing at things and asking what the english word was, then repeating it. he walked me back to the teacher's room after, saying "choco, banilla, karamello!"

special needs students are always my favourite. they are really cool but totally stigmatized here.some of them are not "retarded" as they like to call them and have other specific learning difficulties that are not even acknowledged never mind dealt with.they all get lumped together. makes me so mad. also really upsets me when the other teachers&students laugh and take the piss out of them. some of them are more intelligent and have better english than the "normal" students and the teachers. in fact plenty of the "normal" students are little ignorant shits! what's their excuse? usually i teach them english without a jte 3 times a week but only because i ask/offer.some of them are really bright when someone bothers to tap into it. they just need to be taught in a different, ultimately more challenging and beneficial way. plus they are far more willing to laugh at themselves and the japanese way than anyone else i've met here. they're not as anal as the rest of them and are individuals so i love them!give me the special needs kids over the "normal" kids anyday!
sorry, this is close to my heart and i feel very strongly about it.
kat, have fun!

went out for lunch because if i didn't get out of here for a while i was going to scream. went to this restaurant close by and had a buffet salad bar which included soup, chips(as in french fries),curry(jap variety but good),rice, bread, mixed salads, veg, fruit. all for only 560yen!!!!! woo hoo! only problem now is i have a pain in my stomach from eating too much! being bored while full after escaping for an hour is alot better than being bored while hungry...
still no word from tom:-(
