tuesdays

this morning i woke up in a super mood. well, it was definitely solidified after my second cup of tim hortain's coffee thanks to mum and the bday package. it was one of those rare days when i entered the teacher's room with a smile and said good morning to all my kids in the hallways. from 8am till third period i updated the blog, read a bit of pride and pred, checked the ol' emails...taught the best (by saruhashi standards) ni-nensei class...bit more random net searches...lunch...
i've got my last adult english conversation class tonight. i've asked the students (since the first class) to prepare a one-minute long speech for tonights' (final) class. somehow i'm doubting many students will show up. they're so predictable and difficult sometimes because they are as shy and unassured as my chugakkou students. it can be very frustrating. out of 20 students each week only 10 or 12 turn up...which i also find a bit annoying because many students weren't able to join this semester because the class filled up too soon.
anyhow,
i'll update about how it went tonight, tomorrow.
and after school the gym. i'll climb on the treadmill, ignoring the stealthy sidelong glances from the row of little japanese running along beside me. i know they're just curious. and if i'm in a good mood it's fine. it's when i'm a grumbling grouch that the subtle stares in the grocery store really get to me.
i'm in the process of talking to my sister on msn who may or may not be under the influence of a certain green coloured bud.
my JTE today asked me if i will be playing hockey this winter. uh huh. yep. i'll just take the 19 hour ferry to hokkaido on wednesday nights for a bit of outdoor shinny.
apparently there used to be an ice surface in niigata city (an arena, indoors) but it closed due to yak*** complications. which, we suspect, is also the reason for a lack of MOVIE THEATRE IN SHIBATA! this pisses me off to no-end.
ok...is my good mood faultering?
2.5 more hours. i can do this.

totally know what you mean about the stares getting to you sometimes and not others. i am very sensitive today. having a crap week. posted below about it on sado entry. sometimes japan can be so frustrating. most of the time it's cool i know but lately i've been having extreme highs and lows. i either love it or i hate it with a passion. i need to go home i think. xmas hols and ireland in 5 weeks, first time in almost a year and a half, yay!

actually, i myself feel as though i'm going to snap. in both my schools, by desk is placed strategically by the sliding doors. my back is exactly 4 feet away from the doors which are opened at least once ever 2 minutes (or, continuously during the lunch break and other times). considering they don't heat the halls, and there is no heater anywhere near my deks, it's fucking torment all day every day. i don't just sit here and shiver...i actually sit here and freeze. and today i'm wearing (not even close to kidding) an undershirt, a long-sleeved turtleneck, a long-sleeved shirt on top, a fleece turtleneck sweater on top, AND my winter coat. the tip of my nose is frozen to the touch and i can barely type because my fingers are so stiff. it wouldn't be unrealistic to wear mitts right now! i really honestly don't know what to do about it. every 25 seconds the door is opened and a blast of freezing, wet air goes through me. it's absolute hell! and that's when they remember to close the door! (which is about 50% of the time) and often the students just stand there with the door open while they wait for a teacher. i know i'm totally winging her but it's fucking terrible!

that really sucks. but maybe wearing your coat will work? i was literally shivering at my desk, which is also at the door which is also mostly open, and kocho took pity on me and put the heating on! i love him! he's the only person in this school that does anything for me. i will miss him.
why don't you bring a small space heater in and put it under your desk at your feet? i had one in my first year in japan, a jte's idea not mine. nobody seemed to have a problem with it. kinda like having a fan on oyur desk in summer, no?
